DELHIAGRARANTHAMBOREJAIPURDELHI

Journey highlights

  • A private visit to the Taj Mahal at sunrise, and again at dusk from across the river
  • Two nights beside Ranthambore National Park with morning and afternoon safaris
  • Three unhurried nights in Jaipur, with a working atelier visit and a free day
  • Old Delhi on foot and by rickshaw, New Delhi's Mughal and imperial monuments by car
  • A soft landing in Delhi at the end, rather than a dash to the airport

Itinerary

10 nights, stop by stop.

A designed route, not a fixed one. Each stop can be lengthened, shortened or swapped before we confirm your journey.

  1. Humayun’s Tomb in Delhi, red sandstone and white marble under a blue sky

    Days 1–3 · Delhi

    Two Delhis, one arrival

Your arrival transfer is arranged around your flight, with meeting details confirmed before travel. The next day moves between the two cities that share one name: the lanes of Old Delhi, its great mosque and spice market, then the broad avenues and gardens of New Delhi.

    Moments

    • Jama Masjid and the lanes of Chandni Chowk by cycle rickshaw
    • Humayun's Tomb, the garden tomb that came before the Taj Mahal
    • Qutub Minar and an evening at leisure

    Stay · 2 nights

    The Imperial New Delhi

  2. The Taj Mahal framed by carved sandstone arches in warm morning light

    Days 3–4 · Agra

    The Taj Mahal, twice

A morning drive on the expressway brings you to Agra by lunch. You see the Taj Mahal first at dusk from the Mehtab Bagh gardens across the river, then walk inside it the next morning as the sun rises, with the visit timed around opening hours.

    Moments

    • Dusk at the Mehtab Bagh, looking across the Yamuna
    • Sunrise inside the Taj Mahal with your guide
    • Agra Fort and its river-facing pavilions

    Stay · 1 night

    The Oberoi Amarvilas

  3. A Bengal tiger resting at the edge of a Rajasthan forest, its orange coat and white chest against dark green foliage

    Days 4–6 · Ranthambore

    Tiger country

Travel on to Ranthambore for two nights at the edge of the national park. Safaris run in the early morning and late afternoon, with a naturalist, through dry forest, lakes and the ruins of a hilltop fort. Sightings are never guaranteed; the forest is the point.

    Moments

    • Morning and afternoon safaris with a naturalist
    • The tenth-century Ranthambore Fort above the park
    • Long lunches and an afternoon by the pool between drives

    Stay · 2 nights

    The Oberoi Vanyavilas

  4. The pink east facade of the Hawa Mahal in Jaipur

    Days 6–9 · Jaipur

The pink city, at your own pace

Three nights in Jaipur give the city room to breathe. Amber Fort early, before the heat; the City Palace and the astronomical instruments of Jantar Mantar; a visit to a working textile or jewellery atelier; and a day with nothing planned unless you want it.

    Moments

    • Amber Fort early in the day, within opening hours
    • The City Palace and Jantar Mantar with your guide
    • A private atelier visit with a craft specialist
    • A free day, with suggestions if you want them

    Stay · 3 nights

    Rambagh Palace

  5. Humayun’s Tomb in Delhi, red sandstone and white marble under a blue sky

    Days 9–11 · Delhi

    A soft landing

Return to Delhi for two final nights, so the journey ends gently rather than with a long transfer on departure day. Use the time for a food walk, the galleries and gardens of the south of the city, or simply rest before the flight home.

    Moments

    • A guided food walk, or an afternoon at Lodhi Garden
    • Time for shopping with a specialist, if you wish
    • A private transfer to the airport whenever your flight leaves

    Stay · 2 nights

    The Oberoi New Delhi

Planning this journey

A first India journey, with room for wildlife.

For the service and design process, explore private India journeys. For accommodation choices and price considerations, see luxury travel in India.

Why ten nights

Delhi, Agra and Jaipur introduce the northern icons; Ranthambore adds a change of rhythm. The two final Delhi nights leave breathing room before departure. If wildlife is not a priority, compare the seven-night Golden Triangle rather than adding stops simply to fill the time.

Road days and early starts

Allow for driving between the cities and the reserve, not just sightseeing time. The Taj Mahal and safaris introduce early mornings; keep the hours around them flexible. Tell us about walking comfort and your arrival time so that the first days are realistic.

Make the route yours

More Jaipur time can support craft and architecture interests; extra rest may matter more after a long flight. Changes to safari permits, hotel nights and room categories are reflected in the final itinerary and price. Wildlife sightings and specific safari zones cannot be promised.

These are the properties we propose for this route, a few defining hero stays balanced with characterful, well-located supporting hotels. They are subject to availability when we design your journey, and we suggest alternatives of similar character where one is full or where another would suit you better.

Questions

Before you enquire.

How is this different from The Timeless Golden Triangle?

Classic adds Ranthambore and a longer Delhi finish to the Delhi–Agra–Jaipur route, making ten nights rather than seven. Choose it when time in the forest matters; choose the Golden Triangle for a more focused city introduction.

Do two Ranthambore nights mean four included safaris?

Not automatically. The number of drives, vehicle arrangement and zones must be specified in your proposal and depend on permits and availability. Two nights provide time to plan safari outings, but the sample route is not a guarantee of four drives or a tiger sighting.

Will we see a tiger?

Ranthambore has one of the better sighting records in India, and two nights gives you up to four safaris, but wildlife is never guaranteed. We plan for a rewarding time in the forest, with a good naturalist, rather than promising a particular animal.

Is this a fixed departure?

No. Every journey is private and travels on your dates, with your own car, chauffeur and guides. The route on this page is a designed starting point; the stays, pacing and experiences are refined around you before anything is confirmed.

What does the from-price cover?

It is an indicative starting point per person, based on two travellers sharing a room in the stays listed, in the proposed accommodation and room categories, excluding international flights. Your proposal is priced against your dates, room categories and final inclusions.

When is the best time to travel?

Choose dates around the route and the experiences that matter to you. Northern city sightseeing, Kerala’s hills and waterways, and central India’s safari parks have different weather and operating calendars. Tell us your preferred dates; we will discuss the tradeoffs and confirm activity availability before finalizing the journey.

Can the hotels be changed?

Yes. The stays listed are the ones we propose for this route, subject to availability when we design your journey. We suggest alternatives of similar character where a property is full, or where a different one would suit you better.

Are the journeys suitable for families?

They can be. Tell us the ages of everyone travelling and we will adjust the pace, rooming and experiences accordingly. Children's pricing depends on ages and room arrangements and is confirmed in the proposal.
