About Ranthambore
Ranthambore National Park has one of India's better tiger-sighting records, set across dry deciduous forest, lakes and the ruins of a tenth-century fort that rises directly out of the reserve. Safaris run at first light and late afternoon with a private naturalist; sightings are never guaranteed, and a good naturalist reads the forest for far more than tigers alone; deer, sloth bears, crocodiles and an exceptional range of birds.
Best time to visit: November to April, when the park's vegetation thins and sightings become easier; the park closes for the monsoon from July to September.
Worth arranging
- Morning and afternoon safaris with a private naturalist
- Ranthambore Fort rising above the reserve
- Some of India's most photographed tiger sightings
