About Delhi
Delhi is really two cities. Old Delhi is Mughal Delhi: a walled city of lanes, a spice market and the vast Jama Masjid, best seen on foot or by cycle rickshaw. New Delhi is imperial and modern Delhi, built by the British as their capital: broad avenues, gardens and government buildings, with Humayun's Tomb and Qutub Minar standing from the centuries before. Most journeys touch Delhi at both ends, as the gateway in and the soft landing out.
Best time to visit: October to March, when the heat and monsoon humidity have both passed. Winter mornings can be cool and hazy; afternoons are usually clear.
Worth arranging
- Jama Masjid and the lanes of Chandni Chowk
- Humayun's Tomb, the garden tomb that inspired the Taj Mahal
- Qutub Minar and the imperial avenues of New Delhi
