About Jaipur
Jaipur is Rajasthan's capital and its most complete city: Amber Fort on its hilltop above a lake, the City Palace still partly home to the former royal family, and the pink-washed old city planned on a grid two and a half centuries ago. Beyond the monuments, Jaipur is where Rajasthan's craft traditions still happen by hand, in block-printing, enamel and gem-cutting workshops that welcome a private visit.
Best time to visit: October to March for comfortable sightseeing temperatures; Amber Fort is best visited in the first hour after opening, before both the heat and the crowds build.
Worth arranging
- Amber Fort in the first light of the morning
- The City Palace and the astronomical instruments of Jantar Mantar
- A private visit to a working textile or jewellery atelier
