Ulley

Patient watching in Ladakh’s winter hills

About Ulley

Ulley is a small Ladakhi settlement used as a base for snow leopard tracking in the surrounding valleys. Days revolve around local trackers, scanning scopes and long periods of watching the slopes, with movements adapted to weather and recent signs. The Snow Leopard Winter proposes three nights in a small field lodge here. The appeal is the landscape and the search itself; a snow leopard encounter can never be promised.

Best time to visit: Winter for this specialist tracking route. Severe cold, altitude and road conditions require careful planning and flexibility.

Worth arranging

  • Tracking with a private naturalist and local spotters
  • Scanning the rocky slopes for wildlife
  • Small-scale lodge life between field sessions
