About Jodhpur
Mehrangarh Fort rises on a sheer rock outcrop above Jodhpur, one of India's most imposing forts and among its best presented, with an audio guide narrated by a member of the former royal family. Below it, the old city is painted almost uniformly blue, its lanes opening onto the clock tower market and, beyond the walls, into the dry, pastoral countryside of the Thar Desert's edge.
Best time to visit: October to March; Jodhpur runs noticeably hotter than Jaipur or Delhi from April, and the fort has little shade in the middle of the day.
